2018 ANNUAL REPORT

This report gives a glimpse of they ways in which God has graciously allowed GBC to participate in his Kingdom work beyond our walls in the past year.

HARVEY

On the last weekend of August 2017 the city of Houston experienced catastrophic flooding from the wettest tropical storm in US history. Hundreds of thousands of homes were inundated and tens of thousands of people were displaced. Yet as the waters receded, the people of God moved. GBC is one of countless churches that organized people and resources to help. Here is a snapshot of our involvement.

HOW DO WE GIVE
AWAY MONEY?

GBC has three teams of missions lay leaders with three tasks:

  • 1. Stewardship of GBC’s missions funds
  • 2. care and encouragement of our ministry partners
  • 3. mobilization of others to serve with our partners

Our missions staff asks people to serve on these teams who have shown themselves faithful in other ministry areas of the church. When we look to recruit missions leaders, we consider those who have been frequent disciple-makers, children’s ministry volunteers, small group leaders, and key leaders in existing ministry partnerships.

Amazing
stories
From the

1040 Window

The 10/40 Window is the rectangular
area of North Africa, the Middle East
and Asia approximately between
10 degress and 40 degress
north latitude.

This region includes
the majority of the
world's Muslims, Hindus,
and Buddhists.

GBC gives monthly support to a ministry in this part of the world that is using creative means to empower local believers to make disciples and grow the church in closed countries. By helping indigenous church planters start local businesses, they are able to take the Gospel into unreached areas as well as bless the community with new goods and services.

QUOTES FROM THE FIELD

We have seen many Muslims
come to faith in Jesus
and
share their new hope with their
Islamic brothers and sisters.
Farmers, tribal leaders, remote
communities, extremists, Islamic
religious leaders, persecuted
minorities, and large families
have found new life in Jesus
through the witness of these
new businesses.
We were excited to see God
use the businesses to make a
real impact in the life of
Muslim women.
Widows have
found general help and care, as
well as new sources of income,
through the love of these
businesses. Out of the work of
one of our companies, a
ministry to abused women has
sprouted up as well.

ENGAGED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST

HUMAN

trafficking

A 2017 study by the UT School of Social Work estimates
that there are over 300,000 victims of trafficking in the
State of Texas.

GBC has been involved with several ministries around Houston that are fighting this epidemic in different ways.

IN THE PASTYEAR

PEOPLE FROM GBC HAVE:

Join the
Fight

To begin serving with a ministry in this area, reach out to Courtney Goff, who is coordinating anti-trafficking efforts.

Every year, we get the chance to support a few special
projects outside of our regular giving, and here are just a few
of them. We wish we could give more detail on some of
them, but for the safety of friends in the persecuted church,
we can only share so much…

  • Audio/Visual Equipment for a prison
    chapel south of Houston
  • Translation of Growth Group
    Curriculum into Arabic
  • Refugee Housing in the Middle East
    and Asia
  • Dairy Project in the Middle East
  • Agriculture Project in Asia

We believe that planting new churches is
a great strategy for fulfilling GBC’s purpose of
making disciples.

This past year, we did not directly plant a new church (aka
sending our people out to begin a new daughter church of
GBC), but through relationships with some great pastors, God
has allowed us to financially support several church plants
around Texas and one in New York.

SO why DO WE SHARE THIS REPORT WITH OUR CHURCH FAMILY?

We want to be reminded that He is at work to transform the world every single day. From within our local church, we are part of THE church, the bride of Christ that represents His Kingdom in a fallen world, so let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works unto the glory of our great God.
